Standards, protocols, codes of conduct, and social and environmental audit
Most Public bodies are committed to the principles of sustainable development , and now also have a duty to further biodiversity, and have regard to the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. To demonstrate both commitment and performance such bodies will need to audit their activities and report on their performance. Businesses are also increasingly aware of the need to demonstrate social and environmental performance - in part to satisfy consumer demand, and in part to pre-empt bureaucratic regulation. Corporate Social Responsibility is steadily gaining ground.
Initiatives range from simple and unstructured audit and reporting, to full blown environmental policy, management and reporting systems, with associated sourcing protocols, codes of conduct, and indicators of performance.
