History
Hambrey Consulting (previously trading as Econeco) was founded in 1986 as the first consulting company in the UK with the specific objective of bringing together economic and ecological expertise, and academic and practical experience, to provide imaginative but realistic solutions to complex management problems.

The nature of our work
We work primarily in the field of natural resource development, management, and conservation. We specialise in the analysis of the social, economic and environmental costs and benefits of alternative activities, and in the development of policy, strategy, codes of conduct, and institutions that will promote the ideals of sustainable development. We have a particularly strong track record in the field of aquaculture development and management, fisheries development and management, and coastal and aquatic resource development and management more generally. We also undertake work on land use policy, biodiversity conservation and management, and sustainable business practice.

Who we work for
Clients include the Scottish Government, Local Government, Enterprise Companies, DeFRA, Scottish Natural Heritage, English Nature,the UK Department for International Development, the World Bank, The European Environment Agency, Danish Overseas Aid (Danida), UNDP and FAO, and private enterprise. We also undertake research projects funded by national and international research sponsors.
